The Antwerp iteration was going smoothly until a celebrated US gymnast took a fall off his apparatus. The American fans had not anticipated the fall and his slip is taking the internet by storm. Nevertheless, a user rooted for the young gymnastics sensation after his grand qualifiers performance.

Khoi Young has earned his spot as the most phenomenal male gymnast in the US. The ?Young? 20-year-old gymnast is especially known for his gymnastics prowess with the pommel horse. However, the 2023 World Gymnastics championship saw him fall in the very category he dominates everyone in.

US gymnastics sensation falls off his horse

Khoi Young is regarded as one of the top male gymnasts who hoisted the US at number two in the qualifiers. During the pommel horse event, Young performed beautifully atop the apparatus at the team finals event in Antwerp. With a shocking turn of events, the gymnast unexpectedly lost balance and fell. This resulted in a heart-dropping slip for the 2023 Pan American Pommel Horse Champion. A US gymnastics fan expressed shock and concern for Young on his failed Wu travel attempt via a tweet on X.

The tweet stated, Oh….that broke my heart . Nevertheless, you are SO beautiful on pommels, Khoi Young! Keep climbing, never give up! Go USA!” Young didn?t show any signs of a chink in his armor prior to his performance on the team finals day. In fact, the flowy young man secured the second spot in the qualifiers and crossed the 15-point barrier.

Young scored 15.066 points on the gymnastics apparatus after Great Britain?s Max Whitlock, who scooped 15.266 points. While he had almost defeated the Olympian in the qualifiers, his adversity cost him the team finals. While Young?s mid-performance fall atop the pommel horse, he returned strongly in the team vault category to help America clinch the bronze.

Khoi Young with a high-vaultage redemption

The judges awarded Young a slightly mediocre score of 13.600 to Young for his pommel horse routine. Young opened with a beautiful scissor Busnari and followed with a side flair travel before falling off a Wu travel. While Young suffered a deduction in one routine, he made up for it in another. Apart from being a pommel horse ace, Young also specializes in vaults. In fact, he had secured the sixth slot in vaults in the qualifiers.

Young charged towards the vaulting apparatus and executed a powerful and high-vaualtage routine, earning a staggering 14.666 points. The 20-year-old used a Handspring randi at the team event and incurred a deduction for an out-of-bounds landing. This was still an improvement from his score of 14.583 in the qualifiers. The valuable additions by Young helped the US win the bronze medal, while Japan and China claimed the gold and silver respectively. Although Khoi Young couldn?t beat Max Whitlock on his own in the qualifiers, the united strength of his brothers kept Whitlock in check. After celebrating the bronze medal, Young will now look forward to a flawless pommel horse routine for the individual medal.
