The day ended on a dramatically thrilling note at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship in the world’s diamond capital. The event returned to its birthplace for the third time since its inception in 1903. The second time, Simone Biles made her debut representing America when she took home four medals in 2013. Keeping the canary-yellow alloy desires alive,?Biles is clearly dominating the sport currently underway at Sportpaleis, just three days short of its conclusion.

While the moment of truth ruled in favor of the U.S. Team, the turn of events almost handed over the team’s gold to another country. Leader of her troupe and returning from a mental health break, Simone spoke candidly about gymnastics pressure.

The last time Team U.S. stepped on the mats in Antwerp, Simone, and Shilese Jones booked their top-tier slots in all-around. Speaking with @Gymnastics_Now about her return after a decade, she said, “Everything’s a bit different, am thinking about gymnastics and not so carefree…just a lot.” Talking about each experience she said each time being crowned is a different experience, further adding “I am 26, I am a bit older um so it feels just as good as the first one.” When a reporter questioned her on why it was different, she responded, “Well, it’s because I’m not 16 anymore; I’m 26.”

Yesterday the events began with Jocelyn Roberson suffering a left leg injury in the warm-ups, Leanne Wong stepped in on the vault and floor. Three rotations down, Americans were in the lead with 125.831, just 1.768 ahead of China. Biles also didn’t perform her bonus vault Yurchenko double pike after it was named as her fifth move. Later, the gymnast admitted to tumbling and making mistakes but emphasized persisting and pushing through.

The gymnast made her sixth appearance at the global event tied for the most Worlds titles with Belarusian Vitaly Scherbo. She confessed, “It was not our best day, that was a little bit close watching those standings.” It was all in the final rotating with Simone going last that the team gained an advance, Biles recalled the panic and shared thinking, “WHAT DO I NEED!” before concluding the day.
