Ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the US gymnastic women are in no mood to rest. Bringing their A-games either during the Championship season or the training mat, there’s nothing that can take them off the rollercoaster. It is an indubitable truth that the US women outdid themselves in the 2023 season. Among them, one of the Olympic aspirants, Jade Carey, who has stunned in the Swiss Cup, needs special mention.

Jade Carey, the 23-year-old with a blazing collegiate journey, signed up with Oregon State University in the 2018-2019 session. Since then, her NCAA game has only gotten better. She left the world in awe on her NCAA debut with her all-around medal-winning performance. But at the recent OSU season-end meet, she overlooked her performance to praise another.

Ellie Weaver debuted at her first home gymnastics meet on Sunday in the Gill Coliseum. Not only was it a win for them over Brown University, but also a show that stood as a testament to days of bettering maneuvers. Oregon State Gymnastics’ official Instagram page posted a clip of Weaver taking gorgeous twists on the beam and paired it with the caption, “Ellie’s Beam routine. Rotate your phone to watch her career-high 9.975 one more time.” The clip didn’t look like any regular beam routine, rather she seemed like a living embodiment of perfection. Jade Carey, the 2020 Tokyo floor gold medalist, has shared the post in her story, saying, “a true masterpiece. so proud of this girl & all her hard work”.

Having met with Brown University for the second time, OSU has issued a strong warning. The previous meet was in 2023, in a quad meet in Corvallis. But coming to debutant Weaver, let’s see what she felt after bagging the loudest cheers of the night.

The overall beam winner – Ellie Weaver

Considering Jade Carey’s performance history, chants like ’10’ from the crowd weren’t unusual. But 9.875 had her trailing behind the all-around beam winner, Weaver. So, after a satisfactory end to the night, the latter stated, “I didn’t realize how overwhelming it would feel and how exciting it would be. It was a really special moment”.

After all the girls performed their personal best on the meet day, the head coach’s elation knew no bounds. A couple of over 9.8s later, Tanya Chaplin said, “Our goal was to just kind of look at where we could find those extra one-tenths on every routine. And I think they did a good job of that”. Will the OSU women maintain their winning streak or accept defeat to a more eligible team?
