Simone Biles has established herself as a mental health advocate, working towards empowering women and children. Always on a mission to help break the stigma by talking the inconveniences out, the 26-year-old is up to something great this time. But her journey started in 2022 when she partnered with a nonprofit organization, Friends of the Children.
A one-on-one friend, who’ll listen to them and inspire them to achieve goals, is what all the kids need. But the kids who’ve walked the path of foster care may deserve a more special friend, which Simone Biles chose to be. Since she has been in foster care herself, her decision to bring her own story as an example was important. And now, she takes another leap for her hometown kids, too.

In January 2023, Simone Biles launched a box of Wheaties, which featured her alongside the kids of Friends of the Children. The launch event, named ‘Breakfast of Champion‘, had a special announcement as well. With drum rolls and cheers, the host announced the expansion of the organization to the Olympian’s hometown, Houston. When CNN asked in an interview, “You started the Houston chapter, right?” The reply came, “The kids of Houston deserve that.”
She continued saying, “You see their eyes light up and it’s super exciting cause they realise I was in their exact position.” Since no other advocate can engage in an insightful conversation like Biles can, the kids shot their queries and received on-point answers only. At the Wheaties launch event, the Olympian was asked by a little one, “Did you have a mentor growing up before?” She replied, “I was adopted at a younger age, so my mentors were my parents.”
Simone Biles’ answer clearly asserted that the ‘Friend’ can be anyone of any age. Later on in life, she blessed herself with her ‘coaches’ and ‘team mates’ as mentors and her satisfaction reflected clearly. Now, as their ‘Friend’, the Olympian has another news for the betterment of the organization.
