Rebeca Andrade made her mark in Liverpool itself, when she scripted history to become Brazil’s all-round world champion. Cruising past the American great Shilese Jones and Britain’s Jessica Gadirova, the Guarulhos native clinched victory with 56.899. Since claiming her crown in Liverpool, this is the first time the history making champ will compete on all four apparatus. Moreover, she has been mindful regarding an apparatus for a long while.

Francisco Porath, Rebeca’s coach, shed some light on her physical difficulties.
He said, “She hasn’t competed floor for a while. Floor is the apparatus that wears her out to get ready, to get in shape. And sometimes we choose not to do floor, so that she can make three high-quality other apparatus.” Now, since the Olympic games are just knocking at the door, she’s risking the floor again.ADVERTISEMENT

At the Selection event, the 24-year-old performed an improved dismount on the balancing beam (a full twisting, double back). In addition, she also exhibited her much-anticipated new floor routine, which is a continuation of her classic “Baile de Favela.” Though the legend has a multitude of accolades in her name, the journey to the top wasn’t smooth.
Rebeca Andrade: An epitome of perseverance
In June 2019, the 2016 artistic gymnastics champion had faced her worst nightmare for the third time. With her third ACL tear, her dreams doomed right in front of her eyes. That injury prevented her from competing in the 2019 World Championships. Not only that, it also turned out to be the first of many setbacks for the team that had competed for the previous year’s bronze medal. But Rebeca, being Rebeca, showcased unwavering determination to hit the floor again with a great panache. In 2019, she stated, ?I’ve overcome a lot of things and each time I overcame something tough, I was more determined to come back. I wanted to win even more.”?
