The month of January in 2023 didn’t turn out quite pleasant for the 21-year-old gymnast Olivia Dunne. The meet season of 2024 is currently underway, but recalling the previous year’s one feels nightmarish. At the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Livvy had appeared with her girl gang to sweep titles. But a gang of Livvy fanatics disrupted peace with chants like “We want Livvy! Give us Livvy!” Going wild with a cutout of the social media star, tackling them went out of hands after a certain point.

Boasting around 12m followers across social platforms, Livvy has garnered abundant love and support. But that dreadful day nearly compelled LSU to increase security, keeping the girls’ safety in mind.

No. 3 LSU Tigers went against the No. 9 University of Missouri, only to walk home with an unfortunate defeat. In front of a record-setting crowd, the score stood at 197.325-197.225. Though Missouri had stunning moves up their sleeves, one concerning matter kept the LSU team above them. Last year, when a bunch of boys were behaving lawlessly, LSU coach Jay Clark called for immediate action. But this time, LSU had girded themselves up beforehand. An X personality posted, “Higher security appears to be in place because of tonight’s special “guest” (i.e. it’s social media sensation Olivia Dunne)”.

After the situation left most athletes terror-stricken, the head coach said, “We will have security detail with us now when we go on the road and we will be working to create a perimeter around where we get on the bus, where we load”. Further said, “We are going to change some of the policies of allowing the girls to go into the stands immediately following a meet. There won’t be any more going into the stands and there will be a limited amount of time that they can interact with the fans in the stands”. Despite bringing matters under control, Livvy kept on receiving menacing messages.

Livvy kept herself off class for a while

She had once shared, “I had a scare once with a message that I got about a class I was going to, and I was like, you know what, it’s not worth it. It was a threat. It seemed like they knew where I was at and what class, and I just decided better (to be) safe than sorry.”
