The Tokyo Olympics 2020 saw the biggest shock of the games as Simone Biles withdrew from most of the gymnastics events. The famous gymnast suffered mental health issues and withdrew her participation accordingly.

Although she returned to win a bronze and a silver medal, her withdrawal made front-page headlines. The primary reason suggested was her problem with twisties, a phenomenon that gymnasts face. Hence, many suspect, the dazzling gymnast may not display her breathtaking leaps again.

Simone Biles remains scared to compete

The gymnast talked about suffering from twisties, a case where gymnasts lose count of their twists in the air, which can cause dangerous landings, risking the life of the athletes. Thus, Biles spoke about the dilemmas she faced during the competitions and looks skeptical about competing again.

“To do something that I’ve done forever and just not be able to do it because of everything I’ve gone through is really crazy because I love this sport so much. I don’t think people understand the magnitude of what I go through, but for so many years to go through everything that I’ve gone through having a front, I’m proud of myself,” said Biles.

Although she won four gold medals at Rio Olympics 2016, her appearance in Tokyo was famed for anything but accolades. Even though fans were disappointed with her decision, the gymnast did the right thing by pulling out from the competition and not risking her life.

The problem with twisties

Biles explained the phenomenon of twisties because of the threat it possesses. Most gymnasts foresee the problem of twisties, as they can cause dangerous situations for the athletes. Thus, she opened up on her worries about the grave issue.

“I had no idea where I was in the air. You can literally see it in my eyes in pictures. I was petrified,” said Biles.

Moreover, the gymnast remains uncertain of her participation at the Paris Olympics 2024. Wildly regarded as the GOAT of gymnastics, she has earned a combined total of 32 Olympic and World Championship medals, which cements her legacy amongst the greats.

Whatever she does, fans would want to see Biles perform soon. Her death-defying leaps and jumps are a sight for sore eyes. Thus, the sporting fraternity hopes that Biles would return to have her last dance at least.
