Taylor Swift and Simone Biles were both in attendance to watch the game between the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, where both their significant others played. But we don’t know whether they met in person. However, what we do know is that both Swift and Biles have been friends for quite a while and continue to be so. Let us take a closer look at the history of their friendship.

It all started in 2016 when Swift took to Twitter to congratulate the “Final Five” of the gymnastics team that included Biles, on their gold medal win in the Rio Olympics. Biles has been a self-proclaimed Swiftie as she has used her songs in her floor routines too. Biles has also attended many of Taylor Swift’s concerts. In 2020, the world came to understand the impact of Simone Biles’ sexual abuse by US gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar in 2018 and Swift sent her a care package. In 2023, Biles appeared in the swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated, and again Swift was quick to congratulate her. Throughout their careers, we see instances of both these powerhouses coming together and showing their respect and admiration for each other. Let us learn more.

In 2017, Biles shared a photo on Instagram, captioned, “Always a joy watching you perform, nice to finally meet you, Taylor Swift.”  In the photo she was posing with Swift, her brother Ron Biles II, and her sister Adria Biles.

In 2018, Simone Biles revealed a dark chapter of her life to the world when she talked about the molestation and victimization that she underwent at the hands of Dr. Larry Nassar, the then-doctor of the US gymnastics team. She relived the trauma again in 2020 when she withdrew from the Tokyo Olympic games because she didn’t want to train at the same training facility where she had suffered abuse. She would go on and take part in the beam event and win a bronze medal for her country. Taylor Swift voiced a beautiful monologue on NBC in honor of Biles before her routine and called her “a hero”.

Biles then retweeted the post by NBC, writing, “I’m crying. How special. I love you, Taylor Swift.” Swift shared a similar emotion, saying, “I cried watching YOU. I feel so lucky to have gotten to watch you all these years, but this week was a lesson in emotional intelligence and resilience. We all learned from you. Thank you.”

In 2021, Biles again came in contact with Swift and presented her with the Gracie Grand Award at the Alliance for Women in Media Awards. She expressed her love for Swift by saying, “I can’t tell you how much I love Taylor and her music. But Folklore is not the only incredible thing she did during this ongoing pandemic. She has shown immense grace and generosity to many of her fans in need, including me.”

In 2023, Swift released her album, “Speak Now (Taylor’s version)” and sent a vinyl copy to Biles along with a note. The gymnastic champion responded with a “Love my girl Taylor…will be on repeat…thanks babe.”

Finally, on Sunday, fans awaited with bated breath for a possible reunion of the superstar friends at the Green Bay Packers vs Kansas City Chiefs game. They were not disappointed.
