Everyone has that one incident that changes their life. Simone Biles’ husband and NFL player Jonathan Owens went through one such tormenting situation. Owens made an appearance on ‘The Pivotal Podcast’ to discuss his life and journey from an undrafted free agent to Packers Safety.
It was the death of his stepfather that affected him a lot. His stepfather had been in his life since he was a 4-year-old. Owens was raised by him. But an armed robbery changed the course of his life. “Fresh after practice, we probably had two weeks until the season starts and my coach, they walk me up to the office… And they tell me that my stepdad got shot and killed in an armed robbery.”
Owens further explained how his mother was disabled due to a rare muscle disease, which meant she couldn’t walk properly. Immediately after receiving the news of his stepfather’s death, his thoughts shifted to his mother, who was home all by herself. “And that was the moment where I am like, ‘I gotta do something to make my family situation better.”

The athlete further explained how he had good seasons as a college player. However, it was the loss in his personal life that changed his trajectory. His college teammates were there for him. They picked him up when he was at his lowest.
While Owens cried, fought, and stood tall through the adversities, in Texas, Simone Biles was doing something similar. Just like her husband, Simone Biles had a difficult childhood.
