Can Simone Biles' star power overshadow the Heritage Bank Center's need for a $350 million upgrade?

November 2024 marks the final leg of the Simone Biles-led Gold Over America Tour. The tour, which started on September 16 at Oceanside, California, will arrive at its penultimate destination on November 2. So before closing the curtain on the 2024 GOAT in Detroit, Biles & Co. will dazzle audiences at Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati.

Throughout the tour, Biles and her fellow gymnasts have competed in some of the biggest areas each city has to offer, and the Heritage Bank Center is no different. The venue for the 31st show of the 2024 Gold Over America Tour is the largest indoor arena in Cincinnati. However, there’s much more to the 40-year-old venue than being adequate size for the occasion.

Encompassing 346,100 sq. ft. the massive arena is all set to welcome the Gold Over America Tour crew and the thousands of fans that’ll attend the show. With over 17,500 seats on offer, the indoor arena also measures up to the other venues that hosted what sponsor Athleta has described as a “pop concert-style spectacle.” However, Heritage Bank Arena is no stranger to large crowds.

The ECHL ice hockey team, Cincinnati Cyclones, called the stadium their home. However, minor league ice hockey games rarely utilize more than 14,000 of the over 17,000 capacity. Yet another aspect that makes Heritage Bank Center the perfect venue for the Simone Biles-led show is the location. Situated on the banks of the Ohio River, Heritage Bank Center stands right beside Cincinnati’s iconic baseball stadium, the Great American Ballpark.

However, while the location and size of the venue may be adequate for the Gold Over America Tour, the venue has its issues. The Heritage Bank Center “no longer attracts top-ranked acts and events because of its size and interior space configuration.”

The venue set to host Simone Biles and her fellow Olympic medalist could become truly state-of-the-art with a $350 million overhaul. Despite undergoing a $250 million renovation in 2015, Heritage Bank Center has failed to host “regional NCAA March Madness games, Republican National Convention and other large conventions.”

However, as per reports, all this could be changed with a third round of renovation. And while we don’t know when or if that will become a reality, the Cincinnati venue has multiple events lined up after Simone Bile & Co. leave for their final destination of the tour.

What upcoming events are scheduled at Heritage Bank Center beyond the GOAT?

While the special gymnastics tour will be the first of its kind to unfold at the indoor arena on November 2, the Heritage Bank Center has seen its fair share of musical events. Acts such as The Who, Elvis Presley, and Bees Gees graced the venue in the 70s. In fact, modern pop icon Taylor Swift played a show of her then-sold-out Fearless tour at the Heritage Bank Center.

Similarly, a couple of big acts will perform at the riverside venue as the Simone Biles-led, highly acclaimed show departs from Ohio. Rapper Jelly Roll will perform on November 4, followed by Oscar and Grammy-winning pop star Billie Eilish on November 8. And while Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour may be the highlight for the rest of November, ice hockey fans can look forward to several Cyclones matches.

The Cincinnati Cyclones will continue to entertain throughout December. However, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra will interrupt the ice hockey action with their Lost Christmas Eve tour. The arena rock legends will perform on December 6. Besides the sole concert, a Hoops Classic clash between Cincinnati and Dayton and a visit from The Harlem Globetrotters will bring some basketball action to the Heritage Bank Center. However, for now, the venue is preparing to host Simone Biles alongside some of the nation’s biggest gymnasts.
