With this, Bronny is now set to join the franchise where his father has been a megastar. While the news of both the father-son donning gold and purple did not settle well with many, Jonathan Owens has stepped up in their support.

Taking to his Instagram, Jonathan Owens added LeBron James’ post captioned “LEGACY!!!!!! 🤴🏾🤴🏾” to his story. Displaying the first slide of the post, which is a throwback picture of LeBron James and Bronny, Owens adds the caption “Never going to see anything like this again, we gotta appreciate this moment!” By doing this, he hails the step and appreciates that Bronny will be taking forward his father’s historic legacy.

Indeed, it is a one-of-a-kind moment in the history of NBA. If the 4-time NBA Champion LeBron James enters to play this season, him and Bronny would make the first father-son duo to have played in the league before. It will remain true that LeBron James has had a legendary career graph with the Lakers. And now, this window of opportunity is extended to his son. Thus, Owens voices that people should appreciate this moment.

Regardless, this choice has taken the basketball community by storm. Some even suggest at there being a hint of underlying nepotism. Amidst this, LeBron James’ loyal supporters and friends have vouched for this historic moment. And now, Simone Biles’ husband Jonathan Owens is one of them. Piercing through the backlash, he has praised this moment. But, let’s look at the counterblast that this decision received.

LeBron James’ son’s pick caused tremors in the NBA

Amidst the sounds of ‘Nepotism Baby’ thrumming throughout social media, there have been a few comments from eminent people. Chris Broussard remarked, “I’m not mad at Rich Paul [LeBron and Bronny’s agent]. If you’ve got power, if you’ve got juice, use it.” However, he adds, “It’s nepotism, for sure. I mean, I don’t know that Bronny James gets drafted if his dad isn’t LeBron James.” 

Not just this, Bob Myers made a statement on ESPN. He said, that agent Paul warned other teams to not choose Bronny. However, in a case that this happened, Bronny would refuse to play. This claim spread like wildfire. And fans trolled the son for being picked because of the nepotism.

However, Adrian Wojnarowski pitched in to address the same. He said, “I don’t want to hear these charges, people talking about nepotism. The NBA is full of nepotism…. I don’t want to hear about it all of a sudden because Bronny James’ father plays for the Lakers.” He closed by stating, “It [nepotism] is rampant in this league.”

Before this, there were accusations that even James Worthy was allegedly shading the 55th pick. In a leaked video he had apparently voiced his sarcastic take on Bronny’s selection. “…Well, he’s the greatest young player ever right now, that’s Bronny, that’s what I’m gonna say.” While this is said to be Worthy’s voice, there is no concrete proof.
