Sunisa ‘Suni’ Lee is hard at work, with the 2024 Paris Olympics in her sights. She continues to battle with a kidney affliction. The same condition forced her to miss this year’s World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. The gymnast from Auburn War Eagle battled through some of the qualifying rounds then but had to withdraw in the end, though she is back now. As she took a breather, she went to the arena of a different sport.
Suni Lee was present at the Target Center in Minneapolis. As she watched on, the Minnesota Timberwolves took on the New Orleans Pelicans in the Western Conference of the NBA. The Timberwolves emerged victorious 122-101 to extend their unbeaten record at home to five games.

Suni Lee shared an image from the arena via an Instagram story. She was high up in the stands and took a snap of the view from her seat. It is presumed she was somewhere near the upper levels. She had a good view of the massive overhead screens, which showed the replay of one particular phase of play. From the image, it is not clear which quarter of the game it was at that time.
Whether they knew of their esteemed guest’s presence in the stands or not, the Timberwolves put on a show. They led 97-68 by the end of the third quarter, taking their foot off the gas a little for the fourth. Anthony Edwards did the most damage for the home side with 26 points, three rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and two blocks. Brandon Ingram was the standout for the Pelicans with 24 points, three rebounds, and six assists. Suni Lee appears to have a newfound interest in basketball.

Finding solace in sports other than gymnastics
It was far from Suni Lee’s only appearance in the stands at a basketball court when she took a break. Not that long ago, she was present at the Williams Arena. She saw the Minnesota Golden Gophers beat the Bethune-Cookson Wildcats 80-60 in their season opener. Besides that, she posed with Goldy the Gopher and a close friend for a picture. Everyone needs a break now and then. Lee, in particular, will have to deal with a lot of stress before and during the competition. Her health issues would only add to that.
