The 2016 Rio Olympics became a highlight of Simone Biles’ career when she brought home 5 Olympic medals, 4 of them gold. She earned a near-perfect score for her floor routine to complete her tally by practically defying gravity on the mat.

The decorated gymnast set an American record for most gold medals in women’s gymnastics at a single Games. And in the same event, Michael Phelps broke a 2000-year record and swam his last race as a competitive swimmer.

Simone Biles received advice from Phelps

Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympian in history, with 28 medals, 23 of which are gold. At the Rio Olympics, Phelps won 6 medals and wrote the final chapter of his competitive swimming career. Who better to advise on what to do with an abundance of medals?

On August 21, 2016, Biles posted a picture of her medal haul on Twitter, writing, “outdream yourself”. She followed it up with another Tweet, where she revealed the beautiful presentation of her medals was orchestrated by none other than Michael Phelps himself. She wrote, “michael phelps taught me how to stack my medals”

Biles accompanied the swimming legends Phelps and Katie Ledecky to feature on the cover of Sports Illustrated that month. They all posed with their impressive track records hanging off their necks. Perhaps this nugget of wisdom was departed while backstage of that shoot?

We have seen Phelps help out Ledecky with the same problem in a behind-the-scenes clip by the magazine, so it’s a possibility.

Momma Biles has the duty of medal safekeeping

Simone Biles shared in an interview after her aborted run at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics that she didn’t get to see her Olympic medals all that much. There’s no reason to fear misplacement because her mother keeps them secure for her.

“My mom is definitely my medal keeper, and she keeps them in a safe. So as soon as I get them, she is so anxious to get her hands on them just to put them away in the safe,” she shared. Winning another two medals in Tokyo despite withdrawing from most of her events, Biles tied Shannon for most Olympic medals by an American female gymnast.

Recently, the most decorated gymnast in World Championship history received the Presidential Medal of Honor from Joe Biden. Seventeen people of diverse origins received the nation’s highest civilian honor, and Simone Biles was among them. We’re guessing momma Biles locked it in the medal vault. As soon as the plane home from DC touched the ground.
