Simone Biles had to deal with the twisties, and Suni Lee fought through two incurable diseases, stuff that could’ve ended their careers, but they kept going and made the USA proud on the Olympic stage. On the flip side, Jordan Chiles faced her own set of hurdles, including the Olympic bronze medal drama that nearly made her consider stepping away from the sport. But Chiles’ story isn’t over yet, and she’s ready to prove that setbacks only fuel her comeback.
As the dust settles on the Olympics, Chiles is gearing up for a new chapter alongside her teammates. Recently, at UCLA’s “Meet the Bruins” event on December 14, Chiles, Emma Malabuyo, and Sydney Barros gave fans a peek at what they can expect in the 2025 season. The Bruins are set to kick things off on January 4 against California and Oregon State in Oceanside, and Chiles shared her plans for the upcoming year. But is she ready?
Chiles is currently in her junior year at UCLA, while Emma Malabuyo is finishing her final year. During a conversation, Emma shared that it was her last year, and Jordan, with a bit of a sigh, casually chimed in, “I have one more, um.” Emma, almost enviously, responded with a simple “Lucky.” On the surface, it seemed like a lighthearted exchange, but what Jordan said next made it clear that there was much more beneath the surface. She paused and then added, “Well, my body… I don’t know so much about the luckiness, but, um, definitely, I mean, I can kind of go off of Emma, in a sense.”

It’s clear from her words that she’s been battling through some physical challenges. The body that once moved with so much power is showing signs of wear, but Jordan isn’t backing down. She’s determined to push through it all and make UCLA proud, no matter how tough things get. When she talks about the upcoming games at UCLA, you can hear the excitement in her voice. The idea of bringing the energy she got from her Olympic experience to the Pauley Arena is something she can’t wait for.
As Chiles puts it, “We get to put that same energy that we had on the Olympic floor into the Pauley Arena or even just within our team. And, you know, have that time and that, you know, that moment together and just to enjoy each and every memory that we cherish and, you know, make together. Our team is dynamic; our team is very, you know, energetic, we’re high energy all the time. So, it’s going to be a really good and amazing season, and I can’t… can’t wait to see where everything takes us.” She’s all about creating those moments with her team and cherishing every memory they make together. But why is she referring to bringing the floor energy again? That was full of controversy.
Simone Biles plans a well-deserved break in 2025 amidst Chiles’ battle for bronze
Jordan Chiles’s Olympic journey wasn’t without its drama. After what many and Chiles considered her best floor routine, Jordan’s score was initially set at 13.666, which placed her in fifth. But then, her coach, Cecile Landi, appealed a deduction on her routine, and the score was bumped up to 13.766, moving her into third place. That’s when things really got complicated!

The Romanian Gymnastics Federation filed a case with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and unfortunately, they ruled in Romania’s favor, bringing her score back down and moving her out of the medal spot. Even after a final attempt from USA Gymnastics to appeal, the decision stood. Jordan was devastated, but she made it clear she wasn’t giving up and would keep fighting for what she believed was right. While Jordan Chiles is looking at the bright side of things her BFF, Simone Biles is gonna enjoy her post-Olympic break!
