Simone Biles‘ redemption is truly complete. While helping herself to 3 gold medals in Paris, Biles has since been in the limelight constantly. Either she is enthralling the crowd in the Gold Over America Tour or hyping up Jonathan Owens’ NFL games. Biles is truly an example of how vibrant the sporting realm actually is. Now, Biles’ medal cabinet is surely the one to be envious of. Remember her latest upload where the gymnastics GOAT was surrounded by medals and trophies? Well, she will be adding one more to the exclusive collection. 

Simone Biles has notched up yet another accolade. This time, she has been adjudged as the ‘Sportsperson of the Year’ by Sports Illustrated. As the official Sports Illustrated Instagram handle announced the news on January 2, 2025, the entire gymnastics world seemed to rise and bow down to the Queen once again. One of them was none other than Biles’ husband, Jonathan Owens. He was surely the one who was the most excited of the lot. He shared the news twice on his Instagram story. On one occasion, he captioned his story, “So proud of you baby.” In the other one, the NFL safety simply expressed his love with a series of heart emojis. 

Now, it was not only Owens who went gaga over Biles’ latest achievement. Her childhood coach, Aimee Boorman, took to Instagram and shared the story as well. She wrote, “Never Surprised, Always Proud. Congratulations @simonebiles.” Adria Biles too shared her sister’s incredible accolade and marveled at the unique photoshoot done by Shaniqwa Jarvis. Biles could be seen donning snake-printed attire as Adria wrote, “ugh she is so prettyyyyyyy.” Lastly, Cecile Landi gave her flowers to the champion athlete, as she wrote, “So well deserved.”

Surely, the accolade is well deserved. After all, the Paris Olympics was not just about Biles winning medals. In fact, the journey to Paris was one of the most gruesome for the 27-year-old. After pulling out of Tokyo due to her ‘twisties’ the entire gymnastics world went up in arms. They lashed out at Biles and termed her a ‘quitter’ who wilted under pressure at the biggest stage. 

Such scathing attacks, coupled with her inability to sync her mind and body while in the air, left her mentally devastated. So much so that Biles considered giving up and retiring from her career. Thankfully, she had Jonathan Owens beside her. Understanding the gravity of the situation, Owens gave his undivided attention to his wife after Tokyo. Taking care of every minute detail, Owens ensured that Biles never, for once, felt left out. 

When Biles discussed her thoughts of retiring from the sport, Owens instilled belief in her. He told Biles that she was the champion of the sport and she would surely make a comeback very soon. Owens also helped out his wife in therapy by opting for counseling himself. And surely enough, all these efforts bore rich fruit. Biles slowly started to get back into her groove, and come Paris 2024, she obliterated her competition to establish herself as the GOAT of modern gymnastics. And this was not the only instance of support from Jonathan Owens.

Jonathan Owens has never shied away from showing his love for Biles. But ahead of the Paris Olympics, he took extra care to ensure that his wife made the most out of the opportunities she was getting. Thus, there was not a single major event of Biles that Owens did not attend. 

And much to the surprise of everybody, he started to take notes sitting from the stands. The crowd was initially taken aback when the Chicago Bears’ star could be seen keeping a tally of the scores at the US Olympic trials. Owens carried his habit in Paris too, where the footballer could be spotted noting down the scores and tallying them with the judges’ take flashing on the big screen. 

Next up, in order to cheer for his wife from the stands, Owens needed at least a couple of days of leave to fly to Paris. Unfortunately, after joining the Bears’ camp recently, Owens hesitated to speak about the leave. Instead, he resorted to a little bit of mischief. Whispering in the ears of his manager, the NFL star asked him to spread the word about the upcoming Olympics. 

Owens also tried to initiate the Olympic conversation with his teammates. Thankfully, the Bears’ authority granted him the leave. And while Owens asked for only 2 days, he got five instead. Thus, with Biles shining bright in the gymnastics realm, it remains to be seen what’s next for her.
