It causes a person to lose their sense of space and dimension when they’re in the air, causing them to lose control of their flips. Thus, the athlete makes extra twists and flips, subjecting itself to grave injuries. This risks the safety of the competitor while not being able to judge their landing properly.

Biles experienced the same in Tokyo and appeared to mess her landing during an event. Hence, the decision was important for her safety.
