“I Was Never Impressed”: Simone Biles’ Mother Doubted Her Gymnastics Future in Childhood

The legacy of Simone Biles is untouchable. She won many medals while winning plaudits for her incredible performances throughout her career. Some of the moves she performs look tough to the naked eye. But she does it with certain ease; so easy that most people look dumbfounded with her moves.

Her techniques on the balance beam are incredible. The double-twisting double somersault on the balance beam is a thing of beauty. However, her mother, Nellie Biles, did not think she could become a dominant gymnast.

Enduring a tough journey in her career, Biles found it hard in her early life due to problems of being in a foster care center. But it all came to a rest when Biles’ grandparents adopted her and supported her throughout her gymnastics career. At first, Nellie, her mom, did not think her daughter could be a world-class gymnast.

“I was never impressed with Simone’s gymnastics,” said Biles.

Her career started surprisingly. On the day her field trip to a farm got canceled when she was six, she got a one-way ticket to take the next step in her career. After she left the gym, she had a choice to become a cheerleader or a gymnast. The rest as they say, is history. She endured an incredible era of dominance that no one has seen before. Winning many medals in her career, Biles reached for the stars.

What an incredible Rio Olympics

After all the early doubts regarding her career, she put everything to rest at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Winning four gold medals in different gymnastics competitions earned her a place amongst the pantheons of elite gymnasts. Hence, there would be no doubts about her ability right now. Her mother supported her throughout her career as they travel together for all her competitions.

Biles is currently taking a break from gymnastics, enjoying her life in the sport. She is widely considered to be the GOAT of gymnastics and everyone is supportive of her achievements. What a career she has had so far!
