But everything was not easy for her. In a demanding sport like gymnastics, the athletes often have to take a call on whether they should go ahead with the act. Something unexpected happened in one such competition when Simone decided not to perform the Amanar.

Simone’s Decision Not To Perform 

One needs to understand the situation well and then act. Similarly, Simone took a brave call when she decided not to perform the difficult vault Amanar. But that did not go well with her coach; coming down heavily on her, he said“No wonder you didn’t make the cut.”

He added, “You didn’t make the team because you were too scared to do the two-and-a-half.” Despite what the head coach said, Simone stayed true to her gut instincts. To this, she expressed, “While he was sure I’d choked, I was absolutely convinced that if I’d gone out and done the Amanar, I would’ve been rolled out of that arena on a stretcher.”

She knew she was not prepared enough to perform it. Confessing further, she added, “You know what? I don’t feel properly prepared to do that vault. It’s not safe.” Sometimes it is not essential to win the competition. Taking a stand for oneself is a winner trait as well. Simone had quite a victory that day by taking a stand for herself!

Simone’s love affair with gymnastics started at the young age of eight. Her journey started under the guidance of Aimee Boorman. Simone soon secured her place on the U.S. Junior National Team by working hard.
