As the 2024 season has begun, the gymnastics world is already swooning with excitement. The 2024 NCAA season’s Week 2 recently concluded, and it was an exciting week with great performances and some historic moments in college gymnastics. However, amidst the excitement, one prominent figure in the community, an Australian gymnast renowned for advocating for crucial issues, found himself in a state of bewilderment.
As the top 5 NCAA 024 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Rankings were revealed, the 2023 Australian Gymnastics Championships all-around champion questioned the rankings.
The Australian gymnastics champion left confused

In an Instagram post by 2022 Gold Coast Floor Exercise gold medalist Heath Thorpe, the Aussie gymnast was left confused like many others as the results of the 2024 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Rankings were revealed by Gymnastics Now. Taking to X, he reposted the rankings, writing, “I’m confused!” He later followed up with another post, saying, “I don’t follow NCAA, but literally what.”

This bewilderment could be because the rankings at the end of NCAA Week 2 were unexpected, and most of the top contenders and runners-up of the 2023 NCAA women’s gymnastics season found themselves trailing in the early stages of the 2024 season.
The 2024 NCAA rankings revealed after week 2
In the previous year, 2023, the Oklahoma Sooners clinched the top spot and secured the championship, with the Florida Gators in second place and Utah and LSU in third and fourth, respectively. In the current 2024 NCAA season, after Week 2, with an impressive average score of 197.875, the Sooners have maintained their top position. However, followed by Oklahoma, the California Golden Bears secured the second position with a strong average score of 197.363 in the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics rankings. The Alabama Crimson Tide earned the third position with a score of 197.175.

The Arkansas Razorbacks gymnastics team was in the top four with a score of 197.150. The Utah Red Rocks landed in the fifth position with a commendable average score of 197.138 in the rankings. Last year’s runners-up, the Florida Gators, came in at number 7 after week 2 this year with 197.100. And the LSU Tigers found themselves at number 8 with a score of 197.063. As the ongoing NCAA Women’s Gymnastics season continues into week 3, key matchups include Florida at Auburn, Arkansas at Alabama, Kentucky at LSU, Missouri at Georgia, Cal at Washington, Michigan at Ohio State, and a star-studded competition featuring Denver, Oklahoma, Stanford, and UCLA at Denver, promising exciting gymnastics action across the board.
