Did Simone Biles' Texas hospitality steal the show more than the gymnastics performances on the tour?

“The most amazing 2 months I’ve ever had 🥹,” wrote Dutch gymnast Casimir Schmidt on Instagram two days after the 2024 edition of the Gold Over America Tour reached its conclusion. For over two months, the show that aimed to celebrate “world-class gymnasts, women and men, who represent the finest of the sport”, leaped across 32 cities with 18 show-stoppers. But for Schmidt, the experience was a different one. Not only was he making history across the pond, but he also making memories that would definitely last him a lifetime, thanks to Simone Biles’ timely intervention. But before we get to the meat of the story…

Did you know Schmidt and Biles’ friendship goes over a decade back? The duo first met during the 2013 Antwerp World Championships, and slowly built a bond where they would have long chats on Facetime and during competitions. While it was not the greatest moment for Casimir, there is no forgetting Biles in 2013. That year, she went on to win gold in all-around and floor exercise. But then, in true Biles style, she also went on to win a silver in Vault! But the year is still memorable for Casmir. “After Antwerp, after her comeback, we talked more and more—often on FaceTime.” And it was during one of these chats that the US athlete extended an invitation to her Dutch counterpart for the GoA tour: “And then she asked me if I wanted to join the show,” to which he obviously obliged.

But it comes as no surprise that Casimir, along the way, was dealing with homesickness, too. But worry not; his old friend stepped in to help him!

When the tour hit Biles’s hometown of Texas, she made sure that Casimir was okay. The tour stopped in Texas for three days between October 18th and October 20th, and the Houston performance at the Toyota Center was on the last day. So, eventually, the 29-year-old Hoofddorp native found himself welcomed right into Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens’ Texas home. As Casimir himself put it on the RTL Talkshow on November 5, “two days in Houston. At her and her husband’s house. And then three days in L.A.” So, it’s understandable that the 2015 European Games silver medalist wouldn’t forget to include his close friend in his farewell post…

“Memories that we’ve made on this trip will last a lifetime ❤️ I can’t thank you enough @simonebiles for inviting me on the show and for making it all happen in general 🫶 Thank you to the whole crew for putting in the work every single day for us to be able to perform 🙏,” part of the caption read, accompanied by a string of behind-the-scenes photos, radiating warm and fuzzy vibes. But that’s not all to Biles’ and her husband’s relationship with their European friend…

The couple even invited him, along with the rest of the tour members, for the Week 2 game between the Houston Texans and the Chicago Bears, which the latter eventually lost 13-19. Anyhow, the day definitely seemed like fun as, at one point, Schmidt, US gymnasts Yul Moldauer and Jocelyn Roberson even ended up meeting Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher and fellow actress (and Kutcher’s wife) Mila Kunis. Moldauer, especially, seemed engaged in an animated conversation with the couple as Schmidt laughed along.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Simone Biles' Texas hospitality steal the show more than the gymnastics performances on the tour?

Have an interesting take?

Well, as Schmidt reminisces about his time with the Biles family, our mind has already wandered off to another question…

Did Casimir see the Biles-Owens’ dream home?

When Casimir Schmidt spoke about visiting the Biles and Owens home, was he also talking about their new Houston home? There’s no telling that won’t be the case, since it’s their dream home, and has been a major part of their life since 2020. And it is no ordinary home! It is an embodiment of luxury with everything from a massive gym with vaulted ceilings to a marble-clad bathroom with a freestanding tub, all curated by Biles herself. And Casimir? Well, he just might have gotten the front-row seat to the Texas masterpiece. But that’s not all!

Right before the tour began, Simone Biles did share glimpses of the house’s updates on Instagram as well. One of the pictures even saw Jonathan and Biles in front of their home. Over the course of updates, the world has ever seen a sleek black door, a walk-in closet, and a kitchen with tray ceilings as well as mood lighting! Biles is the kind of queen who could settle down anywhere. But for Simone, it seems like it is all about Texas. Her homeland and the city she was born in are, after all, in this very state. The question now is, will they stay here or move to another place? Only time will tell, but Casimir’s stay gave him a real taste of the true Texan Simone Biles hospitality!
