As a successful 2024 comes to an end, Simone Biles’ training center, WCC, owned by her parents, seems to be going through new beginnings and major revamps. This has been caused by the departures of the heavily successful duo Cecile Landi and Laurent Landi. Many were taken by surprise this week after the latter left. This is because while Cecile’s move to the University of Georgia seemed to be confirmed for quite some time, most thought that her husband Laurent would stick around until their daughter, who is a French diver, Julliete Landi, went to college. But this doesn’t seem to be the case, as the coaches who helped gymnasts like Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, and countless others bid the Spring Texas gymnasium farewell. But fret not! This has now opened room for new arrivals in the gym to usher in a new era in the sport.

On December 11th, the World Championship Centre announced some quite big news on their Instagram page. Finally, after the departures of the Landis, the gym has added two new Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Program Directors to the team who could benefit them for years to come. The two new additions are Patrick Kiens and Daymon Jones, who joined the gym after earning loads of experience under the belt, mainly in European gymnastics.

The caption of the post read, “We are proud to introduce our new WAG Program Directors, Patrick Kiens and Daymon Jones. With 3 Olympics, 7 World Championships, 12 European Championships, and consulting at FIG for the new COP, they come with a wealth of knowledge and experience to continue WCC’s tradition of top-tier gymnastics and quality coaching. The future is bright! #WCCProud” Thus, the gym looked extremely happy about the two new members.

There’s every reason to be delighted too. Patrick Kiens and Daymon Jones both bring a plethora of experience and years of gymnastics along with them. Patrick was the head coach of the Romanian team in the 2024 Paris Olympics and was vital in Ana Barbosu’s bronze medal capture in the floor exercise. Other than that, he has coached in seven World Championships and 12 European Championships whilst being a FIG consultant.

His longest role in the sport till now was his nine years as the head coach of Dutch gym SV Pax Haarlemmermeer. There he had coached Dutch Olympian Eythora Thorsdottir for quite a while, taking her to the Tokyo Olympics. He had left the gym because he didn’t want to be part of Dutch gymnastics anymore and looked for better opportunities. Thus, Simone Biles’ gym might actually quite suit him well.

On the other hand, Daymon Jones was also a part of the Romanian coaching staff at the Paris Olympics. He has coached in five World Championships and seven European Championships while being a FIG consultant. Daymon is currently a part of the German coaching staff after his stints at the Sweden, Norway, and Netherlands national sides.

Thus, he could also be a very valuable member of the team. This is what makes the future of Simone Biles’ WCC bright, as the members know what it takes to succeed in the sport and would do everything to reach there. It is exactly what was needed after the departures of Cecile and Laurent Landi that left a gaping hole and might have even put the gymnast’s future in doubt.

Jordan Chiles shares insights about Simone Biles’ gymnastics future

With so many changes taking place at Simone Biles’ WCC in addition to her retirement speculation after the Paris Olympics, many have been left wondering whether the gymnast will return to the sport. Many have debated the possibility of her competing at the LA Olympics. After all, she will be 31 when LA 28 rolls around. To add to the intrigue, Biles’ teammate and best friend Jordan Chiles was asked about this matter during her appearance on USA Today. The host had asked her whether Simone would be competing in the 2028 edition of the Games. But, unfortunately, Jordan seemed to be in the same position as most of us.

“I don’t know, honestly,” she confessed. However, Jordan did give fans more insight into what Simone Biles was thinking right now and whether she’s even contemplating her gymnastics future right now. “I think right now she’s just focusing on her husband being in the NFL, like going, you know, in Chicago and all this stuff, and she is definitely taking time to be herself,” she said.
