Is Simone Biles redefining gymnastics with her emotional and innovative Gold Over America Tour?

After ending her redemption tour with three gold medals at Paris 2024, Simone Biles embarked on another adventure in September. After spending over clawing her way back to Olympic glory, Biles, alongside the gold medal-winning women’s and bronze-winning men’s teams, started the Gold Over America Tour in September. Now, three days after the second edition of GOAT, the 27-year-old has yet to get over the emotions.

The 2024 Gold Over America Tour was a gymnastics showcase like no other. The ‘pop concert-style’ show blended music, storytelling, and gymnastics in a way that even the athletes don’t seem ready to move on from just yet. The official GOAT Instagram handle shared a highlight reel with some special moments from the successful tour.

“Not over it but not sure we ever will be. Stay GOLDEN and thank you for an unforgettable journey these last two months,” posted the official GOAT handle on Instagram. Biles, who had a blast during the Athleta-sponsored tour, became emotional even before the tour ended. “Last show day… bittersweet.” Simone Biles wrote on November 3, the 2024 GOAT’s final day in Detroit.

So the latest highlight reel only brought back a flood of memories from the 30+ shows they performed across the United States in two months. “My Heart has never been fuller,” the seven-time Olympic gold medalist wrote in her Instagram story. In fact, the conclusion of the Gold Over America Tour has left the 27-year-old in tears, as evident from her past stories.

Simone Biles posted multiple stories with teammates Jordan Chiles and Joscelyn Roberson. While the stories started with smiles, the eleven-time Olympic medalist seemed emotionally overwhelmed by the third, fighting to hold back tears. The defending world champion even admitted that she couldn’t “stop crying” on Threads later. What made Biles even more emotional was that the second edition of GOAT was even more special than the first one.

What made the Simone Biles-led show even more special this time?

Biles started talking about the Gold Over America Tour months ahead of the Olympics. “I think the first time we were very driven on female-forward cast and having the beauty in that and knowing that we can put on a show without the guys,” Biles said in May 2024. “But this time around we’re like ‘OK, that worked but let’s do it a little bit differently, let’s invite the men,” added the Olympian as per KRGC.

So while success at the Olympics boosted the second edition of Gold Over America, it wasn’t what motivated the tour to add the men’s team. Instead, Simone Biles included members of the U.S. men’s gymnastics team thanks to individuals such as Fredrick Richard. Biles admired how Richard has built an audience and promoted his spot since 2020.

“I think it’ll bring a whole different take… it brings a different type of crowd too,” Biles said in May. Richard, who has spent years trying to make men’s gymnastics a household name in the USA, was delighted to become a part of the GOAT Tour. The seven-time Olympic gold medalist’s move proved genius as they broke a 16-year medal drought for U.S. men’s gymnastics in Paris.

However, despite lamenting the end of a memorable tour, Simone Biles is back in the gym. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Biles said she would like to “keep it going and keep up the momentum” of the successful second edition of the Gold Over America Tour.
