The 2023 US Men’s Gymnastics Team for the World Artistic Gymnastics Championship is probably one of the best the country has seen in quite some time. However, performing on individual levels, the team’s former member, Brody Malone has stepped up in the time of the need. When the team was running without a medal at last year’s Worlds, Malone chimed in to win one on the High Bar. However, the gymnast this year was obliged to sit out after an injury on the same apparatus.

Now as his former teammate and veteran Yul Moldauer led the team at the event,? the gymnast was pushed toward a near-similar situation. Moldauer, the 2020 Olympian took to the platform on Sunday for one last performance at the 2023 Worlds; the Parallel Bars. The 27-year-old gymnast qualified at the 4th position for the apparatus during the qualifiers. On 8th October as he headed to finals for continued momentum, Moldauer was met with disappointing results.

During the qualifiers round, the 27-year-old put on an excellent performance on the Parallel Bars calling in for loud cheers from the teammates. The showcase placed Moldauer 4th on the list with 14.966 followed by teammate Asher Hong on 6th with 14.833. However, as he took to the apparatus today, the gymnast experienced a fall over the bar.

Moldauer started off the performance with a Felge or an under somersault, followed by a Diamidov. But when he attempted the Makuts, the skill rendered a little off the skill. Swinging hard on the move, the gymnast made way for a fall; resulting in the downgrading of the scores. Nonetheless, Moldauer gathered up to complete the routine and added a neat end to with Suarez variations and a double front half.

Following his performance, Moldauer garnered a total of 13.133 with 6.833 on execution and 6.300 difficulty. And as for teammate Asher Hong, the 19-year-old dropped down to the sixth with 14.466 on board. The two’s performance on the apparatus marked the conclusion of each’s presence at the 2023 Worlds.

Yul reigns in his older ground

The US men’s national team entering the 2023 Worlds knew not what to expect. The team comprised of 3 young debutants, alongside the 27-year-old veteran, Yul Moldauer; but the team mates were no strangers. Early this year, Yul contested beside fellow teammates, Asher Hong, and Fred Richard at the 2023 Winter Cup Challenge in Louisville, Kentucky.

After gaining a spot in the Olympic berth with an impressive floor routine, the Winter Cup was Yul’s next major event. At the contest, Yul started with the horizontal bar with a 13.500, and then onto the floor scoring 14.400. He then furthered to conquer the Pommel Horse, the Vault, and the Still Rings; posting above 14 for the latter two and a 13.357 for the former. Eventually, Yul put up a final score of 85.342, pushing ahead of Fred Richard at 84.602 and Asher Hong at 81.948.
