Home/Gymnastics

Threats often come before providing a warning. The gymnastics fans might have learned the meaning of this sentence. How? A week ago, the University of Florida hosted the Gator Hype Night to introduce the gymnasts to the fans. Just before the fresh NCAA gymnastics season, it was to showcase the preparation level of the Gators’ gymnasts. Expectedly, the 20-year-old from Maryland entered the event and displayed her mastery of the bars. After facing an ACL tear in the US Olympic gymnastics trials, it was her first public display in the last 6 months. Sadly, that was all before the fans had to learn another bad news.

After last week’s show, everything went smoothly. Nobody had a slight doubt about Kayla DiCello’s return and her fitness. But the sky snapped at her. On December 23, the fans learned about a piece of heartbreaking news from DiCello. The former world champion shared an update regarding her fitness, leaving a question mark again on her return to the mat.

On Monday, the Gators’ gymnast shared a detailed post on her Instagram handle, attaching two snapshots. In one of those snapshots, she was seen bedridden with her left foot bandaged heavily. In the concerned post, Kayla DiCello wrote, “Unfortunately, I had another surgery. Everyone has a different journey in life and this is the plan God has for me. I’ll be back in the gym again soon. [white heart emoji]” This update came out of the blue for the fans. They couldn’t believe their eyes seeing Kayla at the receiving end again. One such expressed the pain, penning: “This breaks my heart I was so excited to see you compete this year [3x crying emoji]” Every star aligned for the 20-year-old in November and the first half of December.

A post shared by Kayla DiCello (@kayladicello)

After June, it was the first time when the former Junior World Champion appeared in her full shine. The snippets shared on social media displayed her shedding sweat in the Gators’ gym. On December 5, she uploaded one such clip, framing herself doing the uneven bars routine. Kayla’s movement in the bars had zero flaws. Meanwhile, such a scene made the fans hopeful of seeing her in full glory in the upcoming college gymnastics season.

Notably, Kayla DiCello entered the Gators’ roster for the 2025 season as a sophomore. This year, the elite gymnastics and the preparation for the US Olympic trials kept her away from the NCAA gymnastics season. Now, her latest update has made her fans worried about her college gymnastics future. Would the gymnast have to sit another season? Fans surely don’t want that. They, meanwhile, have wished Kayla DiCello a speedy recovery.

The gymnastics fans have yet to grapple with the news

What’s your perspective on:

Is Kayla DiCello's journey a testament to resilience, or should she prioritize her long-term health?

Have an interesting take?

i hope it isn’t anything too serious :(, she’s my fave so this is depressing but at least she can just redshirt this year and come back slowly and still have thee years left with florida,” a fan commented on Reddit regarding Kayla DiCello’s gymnastics future. Yes, Kayla can turn into a redshirt freshman next season. That would help her in sitting out for a season and taking her time to recover fully. She can do that for only one season, though. But she is another name on the Gators’ gymnastics list who came under the grip of the injury bug.

The hardcore fans haven’t forgotten that. Previously, Skye Blakely had also faced the wrath of injury. However, she is now on her way to start another season. Remembering that plagued situation, a fan wrote on Reddit, God please stop plaguing Florida [crying emoji] I don’t want to see any of the girls injured, but man the punches we took with our elites. Rest up girl, we’ll miss you!” Kayla DiCello will need messages like this helping her recover early. But what happened to her left foot that made her go under the knives and needles again?

This question led a gymnastics fan to comment, Yikes I hope she didn’t tear her other Achilles- it’s the opposite foot to the one she did in the summer I just went back and checked the video. Maybe it’s something else though. Fingers crossed she heals fully and can get back to it soon!Yes, Kayla bowed out of the US Olympic gymnastics trials after rupturing her right foot’s ACL. Now, she is having a blow on her left foot. What made her enter such a condition? The answer has yet to come.

Nonetheless, fans are concerned about her. An avid gymnastics follower expressed his/her concern on Instagram. The fan wrote, Im so sad [ sad emoji] i love her gymnastics. i hope she has a smooth recovery.Another fan displayed a similar mood in an Instagram post. The comment read,Praying for you and a quick recovery!Kayla, in fact, had been on her way to regaining her full health. Last week, she shared her updates about spending a holiday at a tropical destination. But now here she is, bedridden after going through surgery. Surely, fans’ sweet messages will help her to motivate herself in such a gloomy phase.
