As the PAC-12 gymnastics season rages on, the Arizona State Sun Devils are slowly finding their feet. With a 5-4 overall record, the Sun Devils women’s gymnastics is gradually getting over their wobbly start to the season, and their hopes just got bolstered thanks to an impressive win over their arch-rivals. Arizona State clinched their eighth consecutive win at home over the Arizona Wildcats and naturally, celebrations are underway.

The battle between the two Arizona women’s gymnastics teams is among the most fierce in the country. The McKale Center lit up on Thursday night as the Arizona State gymnastics squad edged past their opponents in the first rotation and maintained the lead throughout the match.

Arizona State gymnastics extend their record against in-state rivals

In its latest Instagram story, the official Sun Devils account shared their recent feat with a triumphant announcement. The Arizona State gymnastics teams recorded 196.850 against the Cats’ 196.250 to record their eighth point in the Territorial Cup Series. In another Instagram post, the Sun Devils further highlighted how big the victory means with the caption, “ARIZONA S8 IN A ROW‼️“. If that wasn’t all, the Arizona State team made it a point to remind fans of its incredible record against their in-state rivals.

With his second over a ranked opponent this season, head coach Jay Santos established his reputation further and made sure his undefeated streak against Arizona got another boost to the system. Their latest win also saw the Sun Devils record 49+ points in each event, making their national dreams look brighter than ever before in 2024. In another short clip, the Sun Devils were seen celebrating the grand victory in style with some ice cream to make things sweeter.

However, the win didn’t come easy for the Sun Devils. Arizona’s Caroline Herry recreated her season-high score of 9.900 on the floor, making sure Arizona State didn’t walk away with a hassle-free win. But the Sun Devils gymnasts were more than a match to keep the Cats at bay.

Sun Devils’ athletes put out stellar performances

Arizona State’s senior student Jada Mangahas scored over 9.800 in all four events to help the Sun Devils clinch their latest win. With that, Mangahas bagged the third all-around title of her career. Another Sun Devil senior Emily White also matched her season-high score on the floor with 9.900 to play her role with success at yesterday’s meet.

Graduate student Hannah Scharf also registered a 9.900 score on the floor, while Anaya Smith replicated the score in the vault event. Freshman Halle Gregoire also managed a career-high score on the floor to make sure the Arizona State gymnasts ended the night on a high note.
