The No. 3 LSU Gymnastics team achieved a historic milestone on Saturday night as they secured their fifth-ever SEC gymnastics title at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. After this historic win, gymnastics sensation Olivia Dunne goes wild for celebrating the historic win of the LSU Tigers. Olivia Dunne posted a few snaps of the celebration with her teammates captioning, “how bout Tigers?!” “@shelly.123 THATS MY SEC CHAMP”. In snaps, the team is seen enjoying their win and dancing with the trophy in hand. Dunne is seen happily carrying her gymnastics logo cap with a big smiley face. The LSU Tigers made a strong start in the SEC Championship on vault first. Heading into their final rotation, the Tigers trailed Kentucky by 0.025.

The top-seeded Tigers put up a 198.075, which was good enough to edge Alabama. Through three rotations the top scores were as follows: 148.425, 148.400 LSU, 148.200 Alabama, and 147.850 Florida. After the win Head Coach Jay Clark said, “It means a lot, it means an awful lot, this is a great group”. With the SEC Championship now behind them, the LSU Tigers are shifting their focus to the upcoming NCAA Tournament, set to commence on April 3rd.

LSU Tigers’ strategic roadmap following SEC Championship victory

With previous SEC titles in 1981 and a remarkable three consecutive championships from 2017 to 2019, the Tigers have consistently showcased their excellence on the gymnastics stage. With the win, the Tigers have now won five SEC Championships, including four of the last seven. After the win, graduate student Kiya Johnson said, “I mean, I think it’s gonna give us all the momentum in the world going into regionals, and also confidence”. LSU freshman Konnor McClain earned a perfect 10 on the balance beam. Haleigh Bryant won the all-around with a score of 39.800.

The LSU Tigers entered the conference championship with an impressive accolade as the No. 1 overall seed, backed by a remarkable National Qualifying Score of 198.125, which stands as the highest in the SEC.
