Brazil is one of the biggest competitors of the USA when it comes to gymnastics on international stages. Even at the Paris Olympics last year, Rebeca Andrade waved the country’s flag high with one gold and four total medals and even defeated Simone Biles in the process in the floor exercise event. But today is not a happy one for the Brazilian gymnastics fans. Instead, it’s a bittersweet day of paying homage to one of the greatest stars of the country for his next adventure.
Being the first to do anything on the Olympic stage is something that indeed demands reverence. Naturally, when Arthur Zanetti became the first Brazilian and Latin American gymnast to win an Olympic gold in 2012, he became an overnight global sensation. Since then, he has become one of the most notable figures in the country’s gymnastics landscape. However, the long journey is at its end, and the fans can’t help but feel emotional.
