In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), the official Big Ten Network account shared the news of Nash’s new responsibility as a Husker. Nebraska Huskers’ Defensive Linesman has been announced to be debuting his collegiate wrestling career this season. Hutmacher has been working out with the team for weeks and is slated to make his heavyweight debut on the mat tomorrow. The X post wrote, “Nash Hutmacher has been added to the @HuskerWrestling roster. 👀 The @HuskerFootball DL was a 4x undefeated state champion and finished his prep career as the nation’s No. 1 heavyweight.”

While Hutmacher is listed on the Nebraska football roster at 330 pounds, he is expected to wrestle in the 286-pound weight class. Losing almost 40 pounds just to take another shot at a dream is something exceptional in the professional circuit and Hutmacher’s determination is worthy of a round of applause. In the short clip uploaded on X, Hutmacher’s parents can be heard talking about how their son always had a thing for wrestling.

About 7 years old, he wanted to wrestle“, revealed his father. Being supportive parents, the Hutmacher couple brought Nash to the AEU wrestling mat, and his natural talent was immediately noticed. “He really did not like to lose“, elaborated Joe Hutmacher. When Nash was in 7th grade, his coach made his parents aware that he may have a bright future as a varsity heavyweight wrestler.

While his parents weren’t immediately convinced, it looks like Nash’s fortune had other plans in store. “I was a little nervous“, admitted Joe, mentioning that the idea of his son taking on the “big boys” made him slightly uncomfortable. However, Nash, the 4-times undefeated state champion is finally having a crack at his childhood dream. But that came after a red tape was cut.
