The retirement of Carli Lloyd left a huge void for the USWNT. She was instrumental in the success that the team achieved for the past decade. The reasons for retiring from soccer have kept many fans surprised, however. She talked about the players lacking the collective mindset and that they focused on building their personal brand.

The legendary soccer player gave an interview with former USWNT goalkeeper, Hope Solo, where she spoke about this. Moreover, one fan on Twitter dared her to question Becky Sauerbrunn and Crystal Dunn about this statement. Lloyd then gave her a reply.

Carli Lloyd backs up her statements

The sensational Carli Lloyd spoke about the team losing its mentality and that there was no ambition within the squad. With Becky Sauerbrunn earning her 200th cap recently and Dunn still competing at the highest level being a mom, a fan dared her to put forward her queries to these soccer players.

The fan mentioned, “I dare you to tell Becky Sauerbrunn and Crystal Dunn that they don’t care about what happens on the pitch, directly to their faces.”

Thus, with the open challenge out in the open, Lloyd did not change her views on the situation and gave an epic response on Twitter.

“I don’t need to nor be dared. Everyone in Tokyo heard this already as well as when I retired. I’m all for building brands, endorsement deals, paid opps etc but when these things besides the collective goal of winning comes second that’s not a winning formula. It’s simple. Get it?”

Thus, back and forth as they go, Lloyd sticks to her opinions about the collective mindset of the USWNT.

Who are the new stars for Team USA?

With Lloyd winning two World Cups and two Olympic gold medals, she led the USWNT to iconic victories. Apart from that, she is a leader on the pitch and guides young players to perform well. Earning 316 caps for her country, she scored 134 goals and laid out 61 assists. Thus, her experience was important for her country.
