When Yuzuru Hanyu and Nathan Chen pulled out of World Figure Skating Championships 2022, every figure skating fan was disappointed. A tournament without the two best players in it. Is it even worth paying attention to? Well, all these doubts were taken care of by the Japanese figure skater Shoma Uno through his remarkable performance in the World Championship.

The 24-year-old Olympic bronze medalist has shared a couple of podiums with both the figure skating titans. However, Uno was always in the shadows while competing with the world’s best Nathan Chen and Yuzuru Hanyu. But all that is in the past, as the figure skater, has finally accomplished the biggest achievement of his life.
Japanese Star Shines in the World Figure Skating Championships 2022
After a couple of second and third positions on the podium, Shoma Uno finally got his place at the top of the podium in France. In the men’s short program, Uno performed his personal best score of 312.48 points and clinched the gold medal. It was his moment of glory as the champion shared the podium with compatriot Yuma Kagiyama and US figure skater Vincent Zhou.

After the victory, Uno said, “I haven’t won too often so I’m very happy about that. I was watching all the performances of the previous groups so I knew very well where I was. All my emotions went into a smile at the end of my program.”
Redemption day for Vincent Zhou

Beijing Winter Olympic was somewhat of a disappointment for the American figure skater Vincent Zhou. In the team event, he won a silver medal. However, the entire team was denied the medal ceremony because of the Russian doping investigation. With a bronze medal in the World Championships, he must have got some contentment after what happened in Beijing.
