Nathan Chen’s love for hockey
As a child, Nathan’s inclination was towards hockey, and he wanted to be a goalkeeper. However, his mother had different plans for him. She was the one who introduced him to figure skating, and ever since, it has been an amazing journey for the Olympic champion.
He said, “I wanted to be a goalie because I watched my brother play hockey and saw the goalie gear. I did not know anything about the sport. And then I asked my mom, ‘Hey, can I play hockey and be a goalie?’ and so she said ‘Being a goalie looks kinda boring, I’m gonna give you some figure skates to try out first’ and that catalyzed me to become a figure skater,”
