A 15-year-old crying at the Olympics may break anyone’s heart. Irrespective of the controversy surrounding the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva there are still many who feel sorry for the teenager. Furthermore, there remain a lot of questions unanswered about the whole fuss. While some believe that she shouldn’t have been allowed to compete, former American figure skater Tara Lipinski couldn’t help but wonder why did a kid had to go through all that?
After being caught up in a doping controversy, Kamila’s Olympic dream lay shattered on the ice. Although going into the Olympics, she was the top favorite. But in the end, she had to settle for fourth place.

Former US figure skater feels sorry for Kamila Valieva
The Olympic gold medalist and NBC commentator, Tara Lipinski, couldn’t drive away from the thoughts of everything Kamila had to go through. In an interview with People, she said, “A big part of me would like to think that I know exactly how Kamila was feeling that night at the Capital Indoor Ice Arena in Beijing ? because I, too, was once a 15-year-old girl skating at the Olympics.”

Sharing Kamila’s pain she further added, “what Kamila endured in Beijing is still bothering me because of everything I don’t?know. A heart medication, six weeks before the Olympics? I wonder who gave it to her, and under what circumstances she took it? Why wasn’t the positive test revealed until after the Olympics were already underway?”
What is the controversy?
After winning a gold medal in the team event, Kamila’s positive drug report was revealed in the Beijing Winter Olympics. She was found liable for using a performance enhancement drug that is banned in sports. Against which Kamila and her lawyers argued that there was a mixup between her grandfather’s medication, which led to a positive drug result.

However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) still allowed her to take part in the remaining individual event. But going through all that was really too much for a 15-year-old kid and she lost.
Now, no matter how painful it might have been for her, it is what it is.
