The Japanese figure skater performed in the finals of the men’s short program at the Beijing Olympics with an injured leg. He had to take a painkiller injection before the event to perform. It was because of the same injury that the legend withdrew from the World Figure Skating Championship in France as well.

Yuzuru Hanyu is finally back in the figure skating world

After an injury that cost Yuzuru his Olympic dream, he is finally back in the sport once again. The two-time Olympic gold medalist will appear in the Fantasy on Ice Japanese tour in May and June this year. His schedule for the tour is – Makuhari, Chiba (27-29 May); Nagoya (3-5 June); Kobe (17-19 June); and Shizuoka (24-26 June).

A failed Olympic dream

Yuzuru Hanyu’s first performance in the figure skating short program was a little sloppy by his standards. To win his third consecutive Olympic gold, he needed to do something extraordinary in the finals. Hence, attempting a quad axel was the only way forward. However, with a failed attempt, his Olympic dream lay shattered on the ice.
