USA’s Journey from 19 medals to hosting World Championship

For the first time in the history of USA fencing, the USA is hosting the World Veteran Fencing Championship on its soil. In addition, the tournament is taking place at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. The tournament features 24 individual and team competitions across women’s and men’s categories. Moreover, the event includes 72 veterans, who brought 19 medals home last year.
On the same note, the first day of the event was lucky for the USA. Notably, many USA fencing legends having prior experience competing in the World Championship made it to the spotlight by clinching the first position at the beginning of the event. However, this also turned out to be in the favour of the USA’s fencing community.
Moreover, the first International Fencing Federation event in the USA in over four years is taking place for the first time in Daytona Beach. In addition, the event is kept open to the public. Nonetheless, the tickets for the event are available online; while a one-day pass can be brought at $5, the tournament pass is available for $25. What are the Medal Hopes Among USA’s Fencing Athletes?
Notably, as the event was initiated on the 11th of October, the events proved to be highly beneficial for Team USA. In addition, Julie Seal from Valkyrie Fencing Club battled, securing an impressive score of 6-9. However, the aspect that sets USA’s fencers apart is their attitude and game spirit. Thus, while registering her name in the record book to become the first American woman to accomplish the World Vet-50 Fencing Championship, she could only salute her opponent

In an exclusive interview with USA Fencing, Julia said, “It was super cool because the Vets take the opportunity to give each other the nod — like, that is great fencing,” She added, “It’s just a lot of love in the room and so satisfying to fence an opponent that respects you and you respect them back. It’s just what fencing is supposed to be.”
Moreover, Jennette Starks-Faulkner from the Connecticut Fencers’s Club clinched another gold, making it her consecutive fourth world championship title. However, she is not the only player outshining on day 1 as Mark Lundborg from Washington Fencing Academy made a remarkable achievement of a third Vet World Championship, adding another gold to his collection.
