The American fencing team has established its dominance across several regional and world championships. The Pan American Games in Santiago recently witnessed a repetition of the greatness of US fencing as several US fencers brought shining medals back home. American fencing legend and reigning Olympic champion Lee Kiefer recently bagged her fourth Pan American Games gold medal.

The 2023 Pan American Games began its fencing events on 30 October, which will later conclude on 4 November. Within just three days, the US has already claimed five dazzling medals from the Pan American Games. USA fencing added multiple stories to its official Instagram account to congratulate the new Pan Am winners.
The winning medalists include women’s individual saber gold medalist Magda Skarbonkiewicz, silver medalist Maia Chamberlain, men’s individual foil gold medalist Nick Itkin, and silver medalist Miles Chamley-Watson. Interestingly, the top two positions in both men’s individual foil and women’s individual saber were bagged by American fencing stars. This further showcases the might of US fencing in the Pan-American region.
USA Fencing had also posted stories showing videos of the final matches between its top fencers. The footage showcased the lightning-fast speeds and the pinpoint accuracy with which the fencers dueled against each other. The medal hunt by the fencing team was kickstarted by America’s Lee Kiefer, who bagged her fourth consecutive Pan Am gold medal. While Kiefer successfully defended her Pan Am title, she will now defend her Olympic gold medal in perhaps her last Olympics.

Lee Kiefer to defend her gold at in final Olympic appearance
Lee Kiefer has been competing internationally ever since she was a 17-year-old high schooler. While she made it to the Olympics in 2012 as well as 2016, she couldn’t medal in those events. However, after loads of training and mental tuning, Kiefer straightaway landed the gold medal in Tokyo. While winning an Olympic gold medal was a dream for Kiefer, she will soon rest her foil to pursue another dream of hers.

The 29-year-old is studying and training to become a doctor at the University of Kentucky School of Medicine. Kiefer and her husband, Gerek Meinhardt, are elite American fencers studying to become doctors in the future. Thus, while her final showdown in Paris may be her last national duty as an Olympian, she’ll still serve her nation as a doctor. After her fourth consecutive Pan Am success, fans look forward to seeing Kiefer win the gold in Paris as well.
