When the sports themselves are in vogue, the properties that seamlessly blend luxury and equestrian lifestyle take center stage.

One such remarkable property having a history of horse riding, lies concealed within the breathtaking Los Pe?asquitos Canyon Preserve: The Canyon side Equestrian Centre, a hidden treasure for passionate horse enthusiasts. The Canyon Side Equestrian Centre is a true hidden gem in the heart of San Diego’s Los Pe?asquitos Canyon Preserve. Its 15-acre property boasts City-owned riding rings and corrals capable of accommodating up to 100 horses. It’s a place where the community and horse enthusiasts come together to share their passion for these magnificent animals. As Penny Maus, Director of the City’s Department of Real Estate and Airport Management, aptly puts it, “It’s really a hidden gem in San Diego, and the boarders, who are on-site, really love the facility and enjoy its use.”

The City of San Diego is now actively seeking a long-term operator to run the Canyon side Equestrian Centre. This effort signifies the city’s commitment to revitalizing this equestrian haven. They are offering a five-year lease to the right candidate and have issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) on the city’s official website. The qualifications for the operator are clear: the city is looking for an individual or entity with a substantial background in the equestrian industry.

The ideal candidate should possess experience operating similar facilities, caring for horses, managing public services such as riding classes, and potentially organizing guided trail hikes. ?I feel like somebody?s going to come along and continue the great job that Gail?s got started here,? said Katharine Boraz, who boards her horses at the Canyon side. ?It?s been really great; it?s been like a home for all of us.?

Once the operator is selected and the lease is established, the Canyon Side Equestrian Centre will have the potential to thrive for years to come. Initially, the lease will be for five years, with the option for two additional five-year extensions, providing stability and the opportunity for long-term investment in the facility.

In recent years, the Canyon Side Equestrian Centre faced issues concerning the quality of its management and upkeep. Horse owners had voiced concerns over subpar hay quality and a lack of timely manure removal. ?I have a great hay vendor, and the hay has been good. I try to make the horses my priority, above the borders, above everything; the horses are the most important thing for me,? said Young, interim operator.
