Equestrian sports might trace their roots back to ancient Greece, however, in today’s modern world, the love for them has permeated all countries. The equestrian communities are close-knit, and losing a beloved member is always harsh on them. The African equestrian community recently lost a gem, and they are still reeling from the loss.

Nestled in South Africa is the Kyalami Equestrian Park (KEP), a premier location for all things equestrian, and a part of the Kyalami Park Club (KPC). Patrick Brown, a renowned horse rider, was a member of this esteemed club for years. Unfortunately, this pillar of the community passed away, and others have come forward to express their grief.

The demise of popular equestrian shocks club members

Patrick Brown formed the zenith of kindness and compassion among his peers, and his dedication to the community has made his departure all the more difficult. According to other club members, Brown was always ready to lend a helping hand, either by donating or by pitching in. His passing was announced on Friday, and the reason for the same is yet unknown. However, his legacy is being celebrated by his friends and family.

The chairman of the KPC, Michelle Jean MacDonald, came forward to pay a heartfelt tribute to his fallen friend. According to PKB News, MacDonald expressed his condolences, and said, “Our world will never be the same. A true gentleman, an amazing horseman, a fantastic coach and an absolutely superb person, and a brilliant friend.” He also expressed how lucky the community was to know a precious soul like Brown, and added, “Believed in everyone. Routed for everyone… Those lucky enough to get your whistle at the end of a round, we’re lucky indeed.”

The untimely death of this equestrian legend has cast a somber shadow over the equestrian community, and many came forward to pay their respects and bid goodbye to this legendary individual whose influence will be felt long after he is gone. The contribution of Patrick Brown in developing the sport was prominent and unquestionable.

How Patrick Brown made the world a better place

Brown was a national coach for Eventing South Africa and a rider’s representative on its Gauteng committee. As a trainer, he trained notable talents such as Arina Niyaki, who went on to be victorious in the 90cm South African National Equestrian Schools Association Eventing Nationals in 2017. Brown was responsible for furthering the development and growth of the community, as he organized several shows and events.

As a stable owner and a trainer, Patrick Brown influenced the lives and shaped the careers of many budding riders. He had an experience of 25 years of coaching, and he trained riders from Oudtshoorn, to Cape Town and Johannesburg as well. Brown was himself quite the accomplished equestrian, competing in all kinds of horse riding shows and competitions.

Every rider that he trained and every life that he touched with his big heart, is the legacy that he has left behind.
