Upsets in the world of sports cause huge shockwaves. When things come to the equestrian world, the magnitude of the shockwaves becomes tenfold. Racing its way to victory, this racehorse has also caused a big upset. The 8-year-old thoroughbred is still very fresh to racing. However, it has produced some very great feats in its short career.

Therapist is currently valued at $1,353,815 and has achieved this number in a very short span of time. The equine athlete secured another major victory by coming first in the Grade 1 United Nations Stakes at Monmouth Park.

Therapist, owned by Michael Dubb, secured his 13th career victory on 22nd July. The thoroughbred secured his third victory of the year out of the six races it has taken part in. In fact, the 13 wins have come out of just 42 starts! Therapist beat the favorite Catnip (Kitten’s Joy) of the race by 1 ½ lengths. Catnip was trailing behind So High and made a break for the final run. However, Catnip was outrun by Therapist, who emerged victorious at the end.

Therapist maintained an unhurried pace throughout the race until the final breakaway. Equestrian jockey Javier Castellano did an excellent job and conserved the horse’s energy till the end. Therapist also did a good job of keeping Red Night away from victory. Red Night has won the Grade 1 United Nations Stakes of Monmouth Park a total of three times since 2017.

Equestrian trainer says he knew what Therapist was capable of

Therapist was bred and raised in New York’s Oak Bluff Stables and Christophe Clement. The thoroughbred had started its equestrian career back in 2017 but had not raced in a long time. Michael Dubb, the owner, immediately recognized that the horse would be perfect for trainer Mike Maker. The brilliant equestrian trainer Mike Maker previously won the 2020 United Nations race with Aquaphobia and the iteration of 2017 before it with another horse.

The trainer, who has won over 3,000 races with his horses, says that he sees the quality of a horse in its breeding. Michael Dubb initially tried to get the now elite thoroughbred for $25,000. However, he failed to claim the deal. Later on, he purchased Therapist for $50,000, which is double the price he had initially envisioned. Seeing how Therapist bagged a third United Nations Stakes victory for Dubb, he knows that his investment didn’t fail him.
