Games and sports have been played for centuries by people in all regions. The prime purpose of every game is to derive pleasure. Sports, however, also have a strong emphasis on competition and expertise. While one may argue that it’s all about having fun, many others would draw a clear line between a game and a sport. A similar problem has presented itself before the internet in the form of hobby horsing. Hobby Horsing claims itself to be an equestrian sport. However, there is one issue: the sport does not have any actual horses.

Hobby Horsing is a sport involving players’ mounting’ on a stick with a horse head made of fabric and other materials. In a video making rounds on the internet, several kids can be seen involved in it. The internet has opinions about everything and even more so for unusual things! Users on Instagram erupted in several reactions to the video.

Hobby Horsing is a game developed in Finland. While it may seem rather unusual, the sport is very popular with the Finnish people. Riding a real horse is a more incredible adventure and learning experience. However, at the end of the day, equestrian sports and horse rearing involve a lot of money. Horses need to be adequately cared for, incur a lot of expenditure, and are primarily affordable only to the rich. Hobby horsing, on the other hand, is very cheap and doesn’t require people to give the ‘horses’ a roof over their heads. One may think that this sport may just be a niche game, but that opinion is not true. The sport is gaining a lot of popularity and has also found a second hub in Australia.

While preteen boys and girls mostly play the sport, many older people also like to try their hand. The video going viral on Instagram was posted by the page “Hobby Horse Generation.” The channel currently boasts almost 20,000 followers. A number that indeed says that people are really taking Hobby Horsing seriously. However, when it comes to people on the internet, especially Instagram, humorous comments just find their way in anyhow.

While many users made fun of the sport and the people taking it seriously, not everyone joined the trash-talking party. One user dropped a warm comment that said, “I was going to make fun, but thought better. They’re happy, not hurting anyone. Live and let live.” Another user just shrugged in the comments section and said, “All I see is people horsing around.” What are your thoughts on this newest equestrian sports category?
