However, during the thrilling Grade 2 Bowling Green Stakes at Saratoga Race Course on 30th July, he faced a mishap that left him with a series of injuries. The injuries did not stop there he also got a broken thumb and slight bleeding on his lungs. Despite the unfortunate incident, Mullen humorously remarked, “I am very sore… But apart from that, I’m okay”.

The mishap occurred when his mount, Rebel’s Romance, clipped heels with the horse ahead, unseating Mullen. Thankfully, he was conscious and alert, and medical assistance was swiftly provided. The horse, Rebel’s Romance, emerged unscathed, and it was later confirmed that no surgery would be required for Mullen’s injuries. As he continues his recovery with patience and optimism, the English rider looks forward to his future races with enthusiasm. Incidents like these raise the question of safety in the sport.
