At the 2023 Belmont Stakes, Jena Antonucci created history by becoming the first woman to train a Triple Crown race in the United States. She did it on Saturday during the 155th racing of nine of the best-performing horses in the world. Her horse Arcangelo ran away from the rest of the field and fended off a late-charging Forte after overtaking National Treasure in the final furlong of the race. Another few thousand dollars were added to her impressive career earnings of $9,000,000 as @FOXSports on Twitter filmed her amazing triumph moment.
It was also a special win for Garden City-based jockey Javier Castellano who rode Arcangelo and won his first Belmont Stakes race. He achieved his second Triple Crown victory of the year earlier this year when he rode Mage to victory in the Kentucky Derby reported Bleacher Report. He had previously won the Preakness Stakes twice in 2016 and 2017.
Arcangelo skipped the other two of the three crown wins while winning the Peter Pan Stakes in May. The Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds is conducted annually at Belmont Park over a distance of nine furlongs.
