Gulf Stream Park is one of the most prestigious equestrian race tracks in the country. The track in Florida hosts races throughout the year for different categories and purse values. There are many prominent races at the track like the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Series and G1 Florida Derby. Recently the officials have finalized the schedule of championship races for next season which contain many valuable stakes races.

In the meanwhile, the track is hosting races of different horse age classes and purse prizes. The Sunday race races saw many incredible performances from the fillies and mares competing with each other to claim the podium finish. The races drew a huge crowd and the spectators enjoyed the furious display by the four-legged creatures at the track.

Incredible performances at Sunday’s equestrian meet

Sunday’s equestrian meet had nine races on the card at Gulf Stream Park. The races held a purse value of more than $250,000. The first race of the day was a $25,000 Maiden Claiming race for fillies and mares of 3 years and above. The race was won by four-year-old filly Sunroof trained by Carlos Santamaria and owned by owned by BHMFR, LLC. The second race of the day was $12,500 claiming race for three-year-olds or above for a distance of one mile and one-sixteenth. The race was won by Burning Man after defeating by a neck the 7-5 favorite Wicked Genious. Burning Man is trained by  Josie Carroll and owned by Ross McCalla. Then came the six-furlong distance $12,500 Maiden Claiming race for fillies and mares of 3 years and above. The race was won by Forever Uncaptured owned by AR Screen Solutions LLC.

The fourth race of the day was a five-and-a-half furlong distance $25,000 Claiming race for fillies and mares of 3 years and above and was won by Sonicus trained by Saffie Joseph, Jr. The fifth one on the card was a seven-furlong distance Maiden Special Weight race for two-year-old fillies and was won by Miss Sayely trained by D’Angelo Jose. The sixth one was the $8,000 Claiming race for fillies and mares of 3 years and above for a distance of one mile and one-sixteenth and was won by Katiesdreamgirl owned by Bruno Schickedanz. The $35,000 Starter Optional Claiming race of five-furlong was seventh on the card and was claimed by David’s Rose owned by Trilogy Stable and Plesa, Laurie.

The next one was a $62,500 Allowance Optional for three-year-olds and was claimed by the son of Voilance, Volcanic owned by Breeze Easy, LLC, and trained by Mark Casse. The last race on the card was a five-and-a-half furlong distance $12,500 Maiden Claiming race which was claimed by Lost City owned by Kenneth Ramsey. These racing events happened days after the schedule for Gulfstream Park officials finalized the schedule for the upcoming championship stakes races.

The next season’s prestigious championship meet at Gulfstream Park is to begin on 1st December 2023 and conclude on 31st March 2024. The equestrian meet will have sixty-eight stakes races with a combined purse value of $14.875 million. The championship will include races like the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational, the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational, the Grade 1 Florida Derby, and others.

the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational is of $3 million and is the first target of the new racing season. It is for four-year-olds and above and for a distance of one-and-one-eighth mile. The  $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf is also of the same distance and age group. The $1 million Florida Derby is of the same distance but for three years and is considered a prep race for the Triple Crown.

The Sunday races at the Gulf Stream witnessed many competitive races with close calls. Many fillies and mares showed their potential and gave their owners and trainers an idea for the future course of action.
