The 128th edition of the Cheyenne Frontier Days had a few memorable moments, but none quite as historic as Ryder Sanford’s incredible ride. The Louisiana cowboy was amazed by his own performance and stood in disbelief when he was announced the winner of the fabled rodeo. Sanford was in for another surprise when he learned the significance of his score at the rodeo.

Ryder Sanford scored 92.5 on Sunday, which marked the highest score ever recorded in the history of Cheyenne Frontier Days. This achievement pulled him out of relative obscurity and made him an instant star.

Before Sunday, Sanford was 124th in the world standings list. But that changed when he rode to a stunning victory at the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo. Sanford mounted the Sankey Pro Rodeo and Phenom Genetics star bronc Black Tie in front of the gathered crowds at Frontier Park. He had secretly hoped to ride Black Tie after hearing good things about the horse. After his win, Sanford spoke to the Pro Rodeo, saying, “That horse absolutely was as good as advertised”. He understood that luck had given him a chance to earn big points with the amazing horse. So Sanford calmed himself and focused on his technique and form. He had the feeling that he had done well, but hadn’t expected the 92.5 score.

This new record shattered the old one from Cody DeMoss, which he made thirteen years ago. DeMoss had scored 91 points and earned the Saddle Bronc riding title in 2010. He has been an inspirational figure for Sanford, who was happy to have surpassed the former. A video of his record-breaking ride was shared by the World Famous Miles City Bucking Horse Sale on their Facebook account with the caption, “In 127 years of rodeo that is the highest marked ride in history 92.5 at Cheyenne Frontier Days™ and new arena record for Ryder Sanford. Congratulations!”

The video showed Black Tie trying to buck him off its back for quite some time, but the talented rider held fast. Ultimately he managed to stick a perfect landing to the amazement of all. The young man has been on a roll since an incident that could have ended his rodeo career.
