A piece of horrible news shocked the world when a former convict was found guilty of a greater offense. The corrupt equestrian trainer, who was previously accused of animal cruelty was found exceeding her luck once again. This time, she had her hands trespassing a jar of cookies by masquerading as a non-profit body.

The old woman made use of false claims and forgery to escape the sight of the law. However, the authorities finally found out the truth behind her actions and charged her for her crimes.

Equestrian company guising as a charitable body to leech fund

Equestrian trainer Wendy Megson was receiving funding for her charitable equestrian body named Manx Equitherapy Limited (MEL). The 62-year-old woman claimed she was very sick and a single mother who was too weak to work. Everything was going well for the elderly lady, till the authorities found that she was lying. Megson’s did not run a charitable organization. 

In fact, she had registered her company with the credentials of another non-profit body to funnel their donations her way. The woman also used another name, Wendy Elizabeth. The Douglas Courthouse brought the fraudulent ways and means of Megson to light. The court found her guilty of receiving £31,000 as income support despite charging thousands for equestrian training lessons. Megson was previously charged with animal cruelty. In fact, the equestrian trainer also served a 20-week jail sentence in 2022 for it.

However, her disguised milking of funds that had been going on for several years remained hidden. Wendy Megson registered Manx Equitherapy Limited in 2012, with her son as a co-director. She forged documents that carried the charity number of a genuine charity to lay claim to donations. Megson functioned as one of the trustees of the charity that helped Romanian orphans. According to the court, the noble organization was later used by Megson to fuel a lavish lifestyle for herself.

Authorities bust the lavish lifestyle of Megson

Megson’s company was never registered as a charity. However, several social media posts later claimed that it was a non-profit body that provides therapy via horse riding. The court found that Megson gained funding on false claims from 2017 to 2021. In fact, she also possessed a bank account in her company’s name that carried more than $124,649.

Further investigations found that this money was used by the equestrian trainer to fuel a lavish lifestyle for herself. Megson had also pocketed additional funds via the credentials of a sailing club and a 2017 scheme that helped charities. The equestrian trainer chose to represent herself in court.

She faced a remand on the second day of trial when her new offenses surfaced after she disrupted court proceedings. Megson refused to show up in court after this and was found guilty of several crimes by a jury. The list included two deception cases, two charity offense cases, and nine cases of benefit via fraud. Douglas Courthouse convicted the 62-year-old and brought her to justice.
