According to The Sun, the news of Minarik’s death was first shared by Matt Chapman, a columnist for Sun Racing. He said in his X post that the former four-time German Champion jockey has passed away. He further added, “Life was so hard for him after a horrific fall at Mannheim in 2020“. Another jockey and friend of the deceased equestrian, Luke Morris, remembered his friend with their photo from last weekend’s race at Big Week in Baden-Baden. He informed that the 48-year-old started his equestrian career in 1992 at Munich Gallop.
In his career, Minarik won 14 Group 1 races which is a feat in itself. On the 3rd of July 2020, he was racing at Mannheim, and as he approached the bend he was unseated and fell on the turf with his head hitting the ground first. After he fell, he was left motionless with a broken leg and ankle. He was immediately transferred to a hospital where he remained in a coma. His wife was by his side and did not sleep for five days. It was a tough time for the family. After waking up from the coma, he showed the courage to walk again because he feared being in a wheelchair. He asked his fellow jockeys what’s it like to be in it. But, fate had other plans for him, as he was able to walk again but struggled with his memory.
