The Hall of Fame equestrian trainer started participating at the Travers Stakes back in 1995. Since then he took part eleven times but was unable to win the race in any of them. The winner of the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes is optimistic that this year he will be able to do it with Scotland. Speaking on his previous attempts Mott said, “I’ve had a few horses that ran in there and were placed but never quite good enough to get the job done”. He further said, “Every time you come, you think, ‘This might be my best shot.’ I can say that again“.

Scotland, the son of Good Magic, does not have depth in the number of races he participated in but has potential, which he showed in his last race. He arrived at the Travers after winning its maiden stakes at Curlin Stakes at Saratoga. But, $333,013,878 worth Mott admits that this stake race will be different in terms of competition from big and tested names. He said, “This will be the toughest test he ever faced“. LNJ Foxwoods-owned three-year-old has won three races from his four career starts giving hope to the trainer and the jockey who rode him in his last maiden stakes race.
