Italian-born jockey Frankie Dettori, a legendary figure in British horseracing, has announced an exciting twist in his illustrious equestrian career.

In a recent statement, he expressed his profound love for riding and a strong desire to continue competing on the international equestrian circuit. Dettori is gearing up for his final rides in Britain during the upcoming British Champions Day on October 21, marking a significant moment in his British equestrian career. Despite nearing retirement age, Dettori is not ready to bid farewell to the world of racing just yet.

Dettori has thrown the equestrian world into a frenzy with his recent declaration. Frankie Dettori’s decision to temporarily leave behind the British horseracing scene in favor of international circuits marks a pivotal moment in his extraordinary career. With a career spanning over three decades and a multitude of accolades, the jockey is not yet ready to hang up his riding boots. Dettori said, “I am simply not ready to retire completely. I still enjoy riding and want to carry on for a while on the international circuit.”

According to Paulick Report Dettori said “I have had the most amazing career (based in the UK), and head to British Champions Day (Oct. 21) with some brilliant rides. This will mark my final day riding in Britain, after which I will head to America for the Breeders’ Cup and then Melbourne for the Carnival.” 

As he prepares for his last day of racing in Britain, he looks ahead to the Breeders’ Cup in the United States on 3rd November 2023 at Santa Anita Park and the Melbourne Carnival in Australia on 7th November this year. ‘How long I continue race riding overseas and where my American journey takes me, no one can predict,’ he reflects, ‘but I welcome the challenge in this new chapter.‘ The move to America presents a fresh challenge for Dettori, who is eager to embrace this new chapter in his storied career and continue enchanting fans with his remarkable talent.

Dettori’s remarkable equestrian career

His journey began in 1985 when, at the age of 15, he burst onto the British racing scene. Over the years, he has achieved the title of Champion Jockey three times and clinched nearly every major prize in the global horseracing calendar, including multiple wins in each of the five British Classics. Dettori’s remarkable journey in British racing reached a historic milestone in 2016 when he secured his 3,000th career win aboard Predilection at Newmarket’s July racecourse.

This feat was followed by an additional 365 British race victories, solidifying his position among the top five British-based flat jockeys of all time. One of his most iconic moments came on September 28, 1996, when he achieved the extraordinary feat of riding all seven winners on British Festival of Racing Day at Ascot Racecourse.
