Champion horse Odie, owned by, a three-time Paralympian has sadly passed away. Odie, a KWPN gelding, competed at the Prix St Georges level under the name Wonderland Odorado. Sharon, an Australian rider, instantly knew he was the perfect horse for her when she saw him with Alice Peternell.

Bred in the Netherlands and trained in the UK, Odie had a remarkable career and won numerous titles. At the age of 27, he met his earthly demise, leaving behind a legacy in the equestrian world. Jarvis paid a heartfelt tribute to her cherished Olympic companion.

Odie was a treasured equestrian companion, forever remembered

According to Horse and Hound, tributes have poured in for the beloved medal-winning para-dressage horse. Owner Sharon Jarvis discovered him by chance in the pages of a magazine. Reflecting on their journey, Sharon expressed, “You made my dreams come true and so much more.” She recounted the moment she first rode Odie, saying, “That one ride was enough for me to not want to get off.” Despite the challenges they faced, including a quarantine delay, they eventually competed in the Beijing Paralympics, placing fourth.

2010 Equimac Rider of the Year described Odie as a spirited and sharp horse who loved the spotlight. She cherished the friendships and experiences they gained together saying, “I met many wonderful people and gained friendships.”  After his retirement, Odie spent his final years as the king of Sharon’s property. He served as a wise babysitter to the younger horses. 2011 Equestrian Athlete of the Year fondly remembers him as the remarkable companion who brought joy and respect to their lives.

Sharon and Odie’s life together in the world of para-dressage was a remarkable one, filled with unforgettable moments and incredible achievements. According to Equestrian Life, their story exemplifies the profound connection between a rider and her horse. From their successful performances at the Beijing Paralympics and the World Equestrian Games, where they won two bronze medals, to the unexpected challenges they faced, their bond remained unbreakable. Their journey was not just about the medals they won. It was also about the lessons they learned and the memories they created together.

Sharon Jarvis will pay tribute to Odie’s legacy by competing in the CPEDI3* at the NAF Five Star Hartpury Festival from the 4th to the 9th of July, returning to the place where their journey began many years ago.
