The equestrian world went through a loss when legendary equestrian trainer Jonathan Sheppard died a few days back.

Jonathan Sheppard, the Hall of Fame trainer, died in his home in Hollywood, Florida, at the age of 82. The man, through his talent and craftsmanship, marked a distinct name in the history of the equestrian race. The British-born trainer was an all-time leading winner for the National Steeplechase Association. He started taking part in steeplechase races in the year 1966 and, in his entire career, won 1242 times. A post was shared by the National Steeplechase Association on its official Facebook page with a brief caption titled, “Hall of Fame trainer Jonathan Sheppard dies“.

The description of the legendary trainer spoke about his equestrian achievements and records made over the decades of his career. Sheppard, who started training in 1965, got his first training title in 1972. His major feat was on one of the challenging tracks of equestrian racing where he won at least one race in the competitive season at Saratoga Racecourse every year for 47 continuous years. His trained horses earned millions and marked their name in the racing history books with two managing to have plaques of themselves at Saratoga. The post garnered likes and comments from fans who came forward to pay tribute to the legend.

The death of Jonathan Sheppard disheartened the equestrian community. Many of them got the opportunity to pay their tribute on social media and register their comments. One equestrian enthusiast wrote,  “A lot of happy horses will meet him again!, at the PEARLY Gates!” suggesting that he shall meet his trained horses at the gates of paradise. Another fan said, “A legend in the sport of steeplechase racing,” describing his record and achievements in the steeplechase race in one word.

Another social media user said, “He was truly a legend. He gave so much to the sport,” pointing out his legacy and the knowledge as well as the experience he shared with his fellow equestrians in his life. Another fan wrote, “We will not forget him,” showing their will to keep his memory alive in their heart. An enthusiast said, “Rest in peace Jonathan You were loved and admired by all,” paying tribute to the man and revealing the admiration in all the equestrian community’s hearts.
