Another year the lineup of horses greeted equestrians?in the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Sale. The auction’s recurring theme of buyer selectivity was upheld by strong market trading on its launch day this October 23. At the four-day auction, the first rise in stud fees emphasizes the attraction of rookie sires by increasing the investment. In the managing partner of Eaton Sales, Reiley McDonald’s words, “it’s not like a heavy sale…because it’s not a deep market.”

Nevertheless, as the final session came to a close, the emerging horse betting industry displayed impressive sales numbers. With one mare alone fetching over $300,000, the auction video garnered considerable attention.

The Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Yearlings Sale took place in Lexington from October 23?26 with 1,605 yearlings cataloged for the four-day sessions. Goodnight Olive, the winner of the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint last year, and Taiba, the Grade 1 winner, were featured on the catalog cover. The 1989-founded Thoroughbred auction house @fasigtipton posted an Instagram video captioned, “Watch Hip 1575 c. Bolt d?Oro o/o Whirl sell for $330,000 to top the final session of the 2023 Kentucky October Yearlings sale!”

In a recent video, it was revealed that a Bolt d’Oro colt was sold for $330,000 to Karl Keegan of Lucan Bloodstock during the last session on October 26. Another noteworthy event of the day involved Hip 1575, consigned by Knockgriffin Farm. This colt was originally purchased for $145,000 at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale last year but failed to sell at the Saratoga Sale in August, where it was listed for $240,000. A savvy acquisition by bloodstock broker Mike Ryan led to the colt, named ‘Into Mischief,’ achieving the second-highest price of $310,000 on Thursday.

In its debut at Denali Stud, Hip 1482 attracted fierce bidding until Ryan secured the sale. This horse, bred in Kentucky by My Meadowview, boasts a lineage descending from grade 1 winner Miss Shop and her dam Shopping, who produced grade 2 winner Trappe Shot. Ryan emerged as the top buyer of the session, acquiring two horses with a total value of $560,000. As the leading seller of the day, Gainesway sold 10 out of their 13-horse draft for $867,500, averaging $86,750 per horse. Given the impressive sale prices, the total gross amount can be estimated to be?

F-T Sale over the four-day auction

With top North American sires, President Boyd Browning had already mentioned the sale as ?not to be missed.? After the first session ended, 257 of the 349 yearlings on sale brought in $11,224,800, an 11% decrease from the previous year. However, the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearling Sale ended with a gross of $51,120,000 over four days. Agent Ryan topped the buyer list at the conclusion of the October sale; With ten purchases totaling over $2,195,000 in four days.

Out of 1,355 yearlings, 1,064 were sold over the course of the four days, bringing the total to $51,120,000, a 7.8% drop. Furthermore, 291 yearlings were not able to reach their reserve price. Noting the success ,the CEO and president of Fasig-Tipton Boyd Browning said, “It’s pretty remarkable, considering everything that has happened in our world, from the economy to some of the challenges our industry has faced.”
